Yesterday I wrote about all the things that happened in 2017 that were aligned to my 3 words. It was the first time that I did this and I am amazed at home it became a guide for me throughout the year. It all started with developing a writing habit on the first day of 2017. I’ve seen how my self-awareness improved and how I stepped out of my comfort zone while making some sacrifices along the way. Now it’s time for a new set of words for 2018.
For 2017, the words where Make, Move and Meaning. The 3 words that I picked for 2018 were also related to these words. It serves as a continuation of my goals and will build upon my success from last year. I also see it as improving the things that I felt was missing from my year.
Here are my 3 words for 2018:
It builds upon the word Move as I still want to make my health a priority this year. 2017 was the year I started developing healthy habits. Despite having a huge improvement with my health from 2016, I was on and off with my regular exercises.
The progress I made might not look like a big deal but for me it already is and I plan on trying to improve it further. I tried yoga last year and I really like the results of my exercise. I also started doing push-ups every day. I was struggling to do 10 push-ups at the start of the year but now I can easily do 30 to 40 consecutive push-ups.
With these exercises, I choose the word Core as I want to be more specific with my health goals this year. I want to strengthen my core and would want to do more exercises related to this. I would focus on just developing the habit first and I am confident that by doing that, the other benefits like losing weight, will follow later.
Even though I did some progress related to the word Make last year, I felt that there’s still something that’s lacking from it and that is Consistency. It happened multiple times throughout the year where I would be posting some lettering work every single day and then suddenly when I stop, it would take me months to get back on the habit again. The same thing happened with my health goal. As I mentioned earlier, I was on and off with my exercise. So for this year, I want to aim for consistency in all areas of my life. I know I can do it since I already completed a year of daily writing in 2017. Now I just have to do the same thing and just show up every day.
I found Meaning in 2017 through the new friends that I gained throughout the year. I stepped out of my comfort zone and just reached out to like-minded people. Now, the goal is to make these relationships grow, hence the word Cultivate. I’ve been part of several freelancing groups and found lettering and art friends. I would want to continue cultivating these relationships and do the best that I can to provide value to the group.
Aside from these, I also want to grow my relationship with my family and loved ones. It’s time to take things to the next level as all the hard work and sacrifices that I’ll be doing are dedicated to them.
For my spiritual growth, all 3 words apply. I want to cultivate a more meaningful relationship with God, especially that I’ve been away from service the latter part of 2017. I want to further develop the core gifts that He gave me to bless other people while also becoming more consistent with my prayer time.
So that’s my words for 2018: Core, Consistency and Cultivate. I know that as I go along through the year, a lot will change and these words might also relate to other things. One thing that I’ll be doing differently is making it more visible so I can see it every day. Previously, I did a lettering piece of my 3 words in my sketchbook. Now, I’m posting it on my wall. Here it is.
I still need to create a specific plan of action for my goals. But these 3 words will serve as a daily reminder of what I want to accomplish in 2018. I’m excited for what’s in store and I am ready to start the year with a lot of positive energy. Hope you also plan your year! Cheers!
